Many people rely on electricity to power their homes, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best energy source available. In fact, many people are beginning to switch to propane to power their homes due to all the advantages it has. However, if you’ve never lived in a home that uses propane, you might not understand the benefits you’ll get when you switch to propane.

Here are five reasons why you should switch your home from electric to propane.

No More Power Outages

Most, if not all, people who use electricity have experienced a power outage before. Things like bad weather can bring down power lines and leave you without energy for hours, which is an extreme inconvenience. With propane, you won’t have to worry about power outages that affect all the homes around you. As long as your propane tank is filled up, you’ll be able to continue to power your home. Many people also choose to have propane-powered backup generators for this reason.

Propane is Efficient

When it comes to heating and powering homes, most people are interested in the most efficient ways to help save them money. If you’re heating and energy bills are higher than you’d like, now may be the time to switch to propane. This is an extremely efficient energy source and can require less energy to do the same job as electricity. By converting electric heat to propane, you can keep your home just as warm for less money.

It’s an Eco-Friendly Option

Are you looking for more ways to be environmentally-friendly in your life? If so, switching to propane is a great choice for you. Propane is a clean-burning gas and is much more eco-friendly than other fuels, making it a green choice to power and heat your home. With propane, you have the comfort of knowing that you’re doing what you can to help protect the environment every time you use it.

Propane Offers Versatility

With propane, you have a lot of different options for how you can use it. While some use propane as their home’s main energy source, and while there are many benefits to this, you don’t have to do this. You can use propane for heating, and then electricity for your appliances, for example. Propane allows you to choose how you want to power your home, so you can choose what works best for you and your needs.

Storage and Refills are Easy

One factor that might be holding some back from switching to propane is storing it at home. Unlike electricity, you’ll need to have propane delivered to your house, where you need an area to store it, and you’ll also have to schedule refills to ensure you have enough when you need it. This might seem like a lot of work, but it really isn’t. You’ll need to make space to accommodate your propane tank at first, but after that, all you need to do is schedule home deliveries. This is a slight amount of extra work, but it’s worth it for the benefits that propane offers.

At Heller’s Gas, we make using propane as easy as it can be. Contact us to learn more about converting to propane today!

If you are a builder planning a new development, apartment complex, or building custom homes, have you considered propane as a fuel source?

Already used in over 48 million U.S. homes, propane (with its low-carbon, high-energy output) has become a trusted solution for powering appliances and equipment resulting in lower energy costs and reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Paired with high-efficiency propane gas appliances, propane can provide you a competitive advantage in home comfort and energy efficiency.

The versatility of propane offers new homeowners a variety of options at an affordable cost. And, when you partner with Heller Gas, we make powering new homes and businesses with propane an effortless process – from selecting tank size to setting or burying tanks to ensuring gas is always there when needed most with our free tank monitoring service.

Where can propane be used?

Virtually anywhere! Heller’s Gas can set tanks wherever you need them, without the need for costly infrastructure. The best part is, propane works the same as natural gas. If natural gas is unavailable or the cost of bringing new natural gas lines to each home site eclipses your budget, propane is the perfect solution. It delivers the same efficiency, comfort, and performance of gas and is versatile enough to be used both inside and outside any size home.

Inside Uses:

Space Heating

Water Heating

Cooking

Clothes Drying

Fireplaces

Outdoor Uses:

Lighting

Whole-Home Generators

Pool & Hot Tub Heating

Fire Pits

Outdoor Kitchens

Grills

Patio Heating

Snow and Ice Melting Systems

Benefits of a Propane Home

Build How You Want, When You Want

Many developers use propane to fuel temporary heat and portable generators when building new homes. When propane-fueled homes are built, they no longer have to rely on public utilities or be subjected to their schedules as tanks can be set where you need them, when you need them. Builders can plan and schedule the installation of propane storage tanks (above-ground or buried underground) and connect them to appliances according to their timeline.

In addition, when you partner with Heller’s Gas, we offer everything you’ll need to meet and exceed environmental standards. We provide and set the tanks at no cost – on your schedule. Once the homeowner moves in, we offer free tank monitoring services to the homeowner so they can “set it and forget it”.

Better Homeowner Options

Propane will allow you to meet your customers’ most challenging expectations while delivering outstanding performance and comfort. New homeowners can select from any number of appliances that best meet their home needs and lifestyle while keeping both GHG emissions and utility costs low.

Propane heating systems can be configured as central or zoned, forced air, or radiant systems.

Homeowners can add on supplemental heating sources such as a gas fireplace. They can select a gas stove for precise control in the kitchen. And a gas-powered clothes dryer (the preferred heat source) heats up more quickly without much energy loss making it more environmentally friendly than electric dryers.

Add whole-home standby generators fueled by propane to keep the home comfortable and running as normal during unexpected power outages. (Remember, the fuel is stored onsite – no more anxious waiting for utilities to repair outages.)

Lower Energy Bills

Propane appliances are more efficient than their electric counterparts. High-efficiency propane-fueled heating systems provide ratings up to 98 AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency). That means that 98% of the fuel is used to provide heat, resulting in big savings on your utility bill.

Settling for a lesser AFUE means more fuel goes right up the chimney. For example, a furnace with an 85 AFUE means that it uses 85 percent of the energy it takes in to produce heat energy for the home; the other 15 percent is wasted

Installing a new water heater? Water heating accounts for approximately 18 percent of the average U.S. household’s annual utility bill, so choosing an efficient water heater for your budget and needs is something to consider. Storage models fueled by propane are up to 16 percent more efficient than electric models. Choose a tankless model water heater and the efficiency rises to more than 30 percent with 70 percent fewer emissions than electric models.

Cleaner and Greener

Propane is a readily available, clean, non-toxic gas that is domestically produced. Its reach goes beyond natural gas lines (where new infrastructure can be costly) and it provides an affordable energy source that contributes to the country’s economic growth and energy security.

It emits significantly less CO2 and when used in place of electricity, propane lowers a home’s overall carbon footprint – as much as a car’s emissions for a year.

The chart below illustrates the efficiency and emissions of a propane-fueled home versus a standard home.

Build with Propane!

Propane has lower emissions and higher efficiencies when compared with electric appliances. Its versatility makes it a preferred fuel source for almost everything indoors and out! And, using propane means you’ll always have fuel onsite – even when the power goes out.

Let Heller’s Gas provide both you and your new homeowner with everything you’ll need for a comfortable propane-powered home. We make powering your home or business with propane an effortless process in sizing, setting, and monitoring tank levels remotely, so no one has to worry about it. (Yes, we have an app for that!) No more trekking out to the tank to measure or check tank levels. Our drivers will deliver propane to each home when it is needed. The homeowner does not even have to call. (Although we do love to hear from our customers!)

After a long, cold, quarantined winter, summer is finally on the way. And if you’re planning on entertaining in your backyard, propane can make your home the place where everyone wants to be!

Whether you’re catching up on family parties and reunions, planning a summer soiree, or are just spending time with the kids, you can do more with propane.

Propane-powered pool and patio heaters, lighting, grills, and fire pits are more efficient than electric models and offer real flames, warm, cozy heat, and dramatic lighting all while reducing your carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

Propane is a reliable, clean-burning, safe, energy source for outdoor living convenience.
See why we say, “Propane Can Do That”.

Cooking in the great outdoors.
(Well, sort of.)

The kitchen is the heart of the home, so why not bring some love outside? Spend more time with your family and guests and show off your mad chef skills with outdoor propane-fueled appliances. Clean, cost-efficient propane can power all types of kitchen appliances including grills, cooktops, ovens, refrigerators, pizza ovens, hot water, and more. And they all offer quick-start convenience, precise temperature control, and easy clean-up.

Outdoor kitchens will expand your space (remember that social distancing), allow you to spend more time with your guests, and may increase the value of your home. What more can you ask for?

Keep your cool by the pool.

Energy-efficient propane is the perfect fuel for pools and hot tubs. With a higher efficiency than electric models, propane-fueled heaters maintain heat better in colder weather allowing you additional time to enjoy your summer fun. Let the kids splash away while you enjoy a soak in the hot tub or spa. Take that early morning dip in the pool or a quiet swim late at night knowing the water temp will always be … just right.

Take a pit stop.

When it’s time to gather around the fire for S’mores and evening relaxation, a propane-powered fire pit, fire table, or fireplace can bring warmth and atmosphere without worrying about blowing smoke, adding logs, or cleaning up ashes and soot afterward.

You can choose from a fixed installation or a portable model that is powered by a small propane tank located inside. Most models provide quick start-up and warmth at the push of a button, but some propane fire pits and tables have ignition systems that also can be accessed remotely via a smart phone or tablet.

And, if you live in an area with “no-burn” rules (outdoor fires are restricted at certain times of the year in some areas of the country), you can enjoy your gas fire pit any time.

Bring the heat.

Let the festivities linger into the cool summer nights and shoulder seasons with propane-powered patio heaters. Propane heaters come in many shapes and sizes (pyramid, cylinder, and standing) to fit any space, sometimes with options to match your outdoor décor.

These convenient heaters can be placed wherever they are needed and can raise the air temperature up to 25°F. These “power hitters” can generate enough radiant heat to keep a small patio or deck nice and comfy.

Light up the night.

Turn your party on with propane! Bring out the magic of summer evenings with an illuminating warm glow. With an average output of 1,000 – 1250 lumens (60 – 75 watts), propane is an efficient fuel for lighting your patio and walkways providing safety and ambience.

Propane lighting, whether they are post, pedestal, or wall mounted, can add a dramatic visual appeal to your outdoor space. And let the party go late into the night!

Ready to get your summer started?

The versatility and energy efficiency of propane makes it an easy choice for expanding your indoor space to an outdoor area for work, play, and entertaining. From the quick, button start to the warmth of real flames, to the relaxed ambience of those summer evenings you never want to end … think propane.
