Heller’s Gas Supports Christian Education Through $150,000 EITC Donation

As we close out 2025, Heller’s Gas is honored to share the impact of a $150,000 donation presented to Columbia County Christian School (CCCS) through the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. This contribution directly supports CCCS’s PK–12 EITC Scholarship Fund, which exists to help qualifying families access and remain in Christian education.

The EITC Scholarship Fund was established to assist families who make meaningful sacrifices to prioritize faith-based education for their children. These funds go directly toward reducing tuition costs for eligible students, helping them not only enter but also continue their education at Columbia County Christian School.

CCCS expressed deep gratitude for the continued partnership and generosity of Heller’s Gas, sharing that these funds “mean the world to our school and the families who receive them.” Through this support, more students are able to experience a Christ-centered education that might otherwise be out of reach.

Under the EITC program, students may qualify for scholarships if their household income does not exceed $116,055 plus $20,428 for each dependent. For example, a family of four may earn up to $156,911 and still be eligible for EITC scholarship assistance.

The 80/20 Propane Tank Rule

Wondering why your propane tank doesn’t read 100% after a refill? There’s a reason for it and it is keeping you and your family safe. Propane’s properties are unique compared to other fuels and require protective and preventative measures. Read on to understand why Heller’s Gas leaves room for expansion.

Propane Expansion

Like many substances, propane expands when heated. Naturally, as a result of weather and environmental temperatures, propane expands 17 times the volume of water. The location of your tank may affect this expansion.

Underground Tanks

You may be thinking, I have a propane tank and it is reading a bit above 80%. If this tank is below ground, there is no need to worry. An underground tank is partially insulated from the heat of an above ground environment.

Tank Sizing

Regardless of the size of your tank, it’s safer to fill it to a maximum of 80% capacity. To determine what 80% in gallons would be for your tank, simply multiply 0.8 by the number of gallons your tank holds total.

For example: 0.8 x a 250 gal tank = 200 gal propane capacity

Overfilling a Propane Tank

An overfilled propane tank will not have room for gas expansion. Overfilling could lead to problems such as leaks or even tank explosions. Excess propane could flow into the regulator causing it to freeze and disrupt the proper flow of gas to your appliances.

The Berwick YMCA, with a rich history dating back to its organization in July 1878 and incorporation in June 1883, has been a cornerstone of community development.

This meaningful contribution, made in memory of Paul Gardner Sr., is directed towards supporting the Berwick Area YMCA Innovation Center. The Innovation Center serves as a dynamic hub, offering invaluable opportunities for youth to actively participate in a spectrum of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities.
